Catalytic Capital: Unlocking Africa’s Impact Potential

Join us for the third webinar in our Catalytic Capital series! To wrap up this series, we have invited Amma Lartey, CEO of Impact Investing Ghana and Andrew Ahiaku, Head of Financial Sector at Aceli Africa to share the various ways Catalytic Capital can be used to unlock Africa’s Impact Potential.

The Catalytic Capital Consortium (C3) Grantmaking program, awarded $2.2 million in funding to support 14 research projects in 2021. These projects aimed to analyse past uses of Catalytic Capital around the world to fuel future investments to address critical global challenges. Both Aceli Africa and Impact Investing Ghana were part of the cohort awarded by the C3 Consortium to fund their research on the uses of Catalytic Capital around the world.

Impact Investing Ghana, in collaboration with Ashesi university, published a report late last year on Catalytic Capital in Ghana SMEs. The report offers a broad overview of the Catalytic Capital landscape from 2004 to 2021 and highlights how Catalytic Capital has been deployed in Ghana’s SME Financing sector, the distinct forms Catalytic Capital takes, what kinds of concessions have been employed to unlock additional commercial capital for SMEs and how Catalytic Capital has been deployed to address the social and economic needs of various underserved populations.
