The AVPA Deal Share Platform for Africa is a subscription-based community where, as a social investor you can share information about your investees and grantees, flag resources those organisations need to grow, and invite others to partner, support or co-invest alongside you.

How the Deal Share Platform Works:

1

Social Investors (such as foundations, impact fund managers, corporates, HNWIs, family offices, and providers of human or intellectual capital, etc.) sign up to be platform subscribers. The platform is a closed investor-only community.

2

Social Investors “endorse” a company or organisation seeking financial capital or non-financial support services. Investors can endorse their current or past portfolio companies/organisations looking to raise follow-on capital. Investors can also endorse upcoming deals to seek co-investors or co-grantors.

3

Social Investors browse endorsed deals and other member profiles to find collaboration opportunities. Contact forms are on the platform so you can get in touch to develop those partnerships and deals offline.

4

AVPA’s Deal Share Team supports social investor subscribers with: direct introductions and tailored deal notifications based on your preferences, virtual convenings, technical and advisory support (through partners).

In November 2020, AVPA launched the Deal Share Platform pilot, which ran through March 2021. For more information about how to join the Deal Share Platform, see the Subscribe to Deal Share page.

Deal Share aims to:

  • Crowd in the right capital at the right time to scale what works.
  • Bring together like-minded investors through thematic platforms to solve specific social challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How can I submit a deal to the platform?
For social investors: to submit a new deal to the platform, first join the community by becoming an AVPA Deal Share subscriber here.

Can entrepreneurs or non-profits join the platform directly?
No. Deal Share is a community for social investors. For capital seekers (companies, social enterprises, non-profit organisations): to be featured on the platform you will need to be endorsed by one of your existing social investors. Social investors can list deals by subscribing to the platform here

What does a Deal Share Platform subscription cost?
Through March 2021, social investors can join the platform free of charge. Investors must still register to become subscribers, but there is no fee. A subscription fee will be introduced in 2022.

What kind of social investors can subscribe to the platform?
Social investors are foundations, family offices, impact fund managers, incubators, accelerators, donors, governments, international NGOs, corporations, and other organisations who are deploying capital (grants, debt or equity) to implementing partners for impact in Africa.

What kind of deals can be listed on the platform?
Investors can endorse impact-driven companies, social enterprises or non-profits who are seeking any type of capital: grants, debt, equity, convertibles, blended finance, etc. and/or non-financial support such as technical assistance or professional services.

What about data protection?
Social investor profile information and deal information on the platform sits behind a subscription wall. Any data you post on the platform will be visible to other platform subscribers, but not to the general public. See also our data privacy policy and
terms and conditions

Can professional service providers join the platform?
Yes! Companies and non-profits need more than just financial capital to grow. Providers of non-financial capital, such as professional service firms, accelerators, or investment advisory firms can join the platform and endorse deals.

What sectors and geographies does the platform cover?
We welcome investors and deals working in any African country or impact-oriented sector and will be opportunistically promoting sector/issue clusters of deals in the future as they come to us.

How long does it take to access capital after getting a deal endorsed on the platform?
By its nature, deal-making is very contextual. As such, we cannot guarantee a specific time – this could take anywhere between 12-18 months. AVPA’s intention is to shorten this period as much as possible through additional backend actions that promote the exposure of investors to deals and vice-versa, connect investors based on similar interests, organizing Deal Share Live Sessions, and other bespoke activities.

Why AVPA Deal Share?

African social investment landscape: many different capital owners using different strategies to achieve similar social goals

Diversity is excellent, but lack of coordination and competition amongst different types of social investors creates challenges. It can be confusing for capital seekers, and inefficient for capital owners. This is problematic especially during COVID-19, as capital resources are scarce.

What does your portfolio need to thrive?

Deal Share brings together philanthropists, impact investors and service providers to collaborate along the entire continuum of social capital.

Why AVPA Deal Share?
