Sombo Muzata

Sombo has a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in strategy from Heriot Watt University. She is a trained accountant, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Sombo is a visiting Lecturer in the Oxford Impact Investing Programme at Said Business School, University of Oxford. She incoming Tenure Track Assistant Professor at James Madison University (Fall 2022).

She has vast international development experience, working as country director in Zambia for Diakonia, a Swedish global nonprofit. As the country director, Sombo was responsible for strategic planning, fundraising, and program implementation; gender was a special theme mainstreamed in Diakonia’s work. Her research focuses on economic development with topics on entrepreneurship and how business can be a force for good. She has received many awards, including the United States Extraordinary Ability Award (Albert Einstein visa). She is alumni of the Oxford Impact Investment Programme and a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow.
