Through the AVPA Investor Readiness Program (inaugural cohort funded by Porticus), Nation Builder began exploring new revenue streams, including the development of an endowment fund. This program enabled Nation Builder to move beyond heavy reliance on grants and adopt a more strategic approach to long-term financial sustainability.

These past three days at the AVPA Conference have been nothing short of transformative, a deep well of networking, learning, and insight into Africa’s evolving landscape of social investment. To be among changemakers, policymakers, investors, philanthropists, and development leaders committed to advancing meaningful impact across the continent was both grounding and inspiring. It reminded me that Africa’s future is not being predicted; it is being built, intentionally, collaboratively, and boldly. It reminds me of the African Proverb that says: ‘Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it.

It’s been wonderful to have a convenor like AVPA bringing together all of us working in catalytic capital. Before AVPA, this part of the capital ecosystem felt far more fragmented. At the 2024 conference, I was thrilled to see such a diverse range of actors all active in the same catalytic capital space coming together under one roof.
