The African Healthcare Funders Forum is a 12-week Leadership Programme followed by nine months of supporting activities for Africa’s leading social investors/funders – grantmakers, private equity/venture capital fund managers, angel investors, impact investors, development finance institutions, mainstream social investors, etc. – operating across the entire healthcare value chain ( medical products and technologies, research, insurance, financing, service delivery, governance, and workforce).
During the Forum, CEOs of innovative African healthcare companies, carefully selected by Ashoka, will join leading social investors to explore the challenges and opportunities that the sector provides. The African Healthcare Funders Forum is a consortium of funders and social entrepreneurs dedicated to accelerating access to healthcare in Africa by increasing the flow of capital into African social innovations. A first-of-its-kind, the forum is a collaborative space where funders and innovators can meet online to learn from each other how to become more effective in mobilizing and deploying capital into the African healthcare sector for maximum impact.
The yearly membership will kick off with a 12-week Impact Leadership development programme to better understand and address the current market failures preventing the flow of capital needed to drive the growth and sustainability of proven and scalable African healthcare ventures. Members will enjoy access to exclusive content delivered by our experts as well as opportunities to meet and exchange with like-minded funders and leading innovators in the field. The programme will also explore solutions on how to de-risk investments at the scale and speed required to accelerate proven initiatives across the continent.
Following the Impact Leadership Programme, forum members will have continued access to a knowledge hub and Community of Practice focused on financing solutions for healthcare in Africa. The forum members will also be invited to site visits, pitch events, collaborative working groups, and many other opportunities to grow as funders in healthcare.
The African Healthcare Funders Forum is generously sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim as part of their “Making More Health” and Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement initiatives.
The Leadership Programme, which launches in September 2022, is a 12-week ‘Learning Journey’.
The Learning Journey will comprise 10 expert-led webinars, each lasting 90 minutes and delivered fully online. There will be one webinar per week. Although participants are encouraged to join the entire series, each webinar can be attended on a standalone basis. All webinars will be recorded.

An enrollment committee will review all the applications and inform all applicants of the decision via email. Should the committee have any questions, a representative will reach out to you.
Registration will close on September 21, 2022. As applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, we encourage you to apply for the programme as early as possible.
The Forum’s annual membership fee is USD 1500 to be paid in full upon acceptance into the Impact Leadership Programme. The cost will give members full access to highly-curated course materials, connections to leading practitioners, closed-door learning sessions, and access to AVPA platforms, services, and events.
Graduates from the Impact Leadership Programme will be recognized as African Impact Leaders and join a growing community of African funders and innovators, providing a powerful peer network for members for the long term.

The programme is designed to fit in with busy schedules, and is not onerous on time nor requires extensive assignments. If for whatever reason you cannot complete the programme, you may allocate your place to another member of your team.
